On Saturday, April 8, a public meeting was held in Castlebar, attended by 150 to 200 people. The organizer of the assembly was HOME (Holistic Outlook on the Migration Emergency). Several people spoke during the meeting within an hour.
At the conclusion of the assembly, the following motion was put to the people… “Having already taken in nearly 4,000 people, Mayo cannot cope with any more international protection applicants or beneficiaries of temporary protection until the services and resources are available to provide an adequate level of care to those currently living in the county, and to ensure that those new to the county are integrated properly into their communities”. The motion was passed with few abstentions and two against.
HOME will now bring these results to the attention of our local councilors and seek for one of them to bring this motion to the council chambers for deliberation and decision.
